The Pushkar Fair or Pushkar Mela is an annual five day camel and livestock fair held in the Pushkar Rajasthan. The Pushkar Fair begins on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi,in the month of October-November and goes on for five days till Kartik Purnima.
In 2017 Pushkar fair starts on 28th October and ends on 4th november.
It is one of the largest camel fair in India. Pushkar has become a tourist attraction point. Competitions like Matka phod, longest moustache and bridal competition draws the attention of tourists.People buy and sell their livestock, like camels, cows, sheep and goats.
Thousands of people go to the banks of the Pushkar Lake where the fair takes place.
The women make stalls, full of bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics. Camels are beautifully decorated for parade and the best adorned camel wins the prize. Peoples are made to sit in the back of the camel in competition and the one who succeeds in accommodating large number of people on its back wins the competition.
Camels receives the every bit of attraction during these five days. A camel race starts off the festival, with music, songs and exhibitions. Between these events, the most exciting view is how the camel is able to bring the items.
A rural bazaar is set up for the visitors for shopping in which a person either has to walk or hire a camel.The eatable stalls are setup which includes Rajasthani food. As Pushkar is a religious site, non-vegetarian food as well as alcohol is strictly prohibited.People also take a dip in the holy lake of Pushkar.
Pushkar is also well known for Lord Brahma Temple because we have only one temple of Lord Brahma on Earth.
