JAIPUR FESTIVALS
Jaipur, the pink city and the major part of the Golden Triangle Tours is known for its hospitality, culture and the festival celebrate in Jaipur make its ambience colourful. Festivals like Gangaur, Teej and Sankrant are most important festivals here.
Gangaur describe its meaning itself, Gan denotes Lord Shiva and Gaur denotes the wife of shiv i.e Goddess Gauri or Parvati and this festival symbolizes the marital bliss. Married women celebrate it for the long life of their husband and love & happiness in their married life while unmarried girls do the same for the wish of loving husband.
This festival showcases the season of spring and harvest. With the feeling of joy in the duration between March and April, this festival is celebrated in the entire state of Rajasthan and in some parts of Gujrat and Kolkatta.
Gangaur is celebrated, just after Holi, in the Chaitra month of Hindu calendar and continues for the next 18 days.
Women and the newly married fast for the entire period of 18 days on only one meal of the day. Festival is on its peak in the last three days when images of Lord Shiva and Gaura are made with the clay then women paint it with the beautiful colors and clothes.
Women decorate their hands with mehandi having numerous designs ranges from sun, moon, stars and other geometrical designs; In sweetdish Ghevar is prepared or bought and then distributed in the friends and relatives and exchange wishes and greetings.
On the last day women sung songs as biding fairwell to Goddess Gauri to the home of Lord Shiva and offer all the images in the source of water and the festival comes to end.
