Keoladeo National Park is one of the national parks in Bharatpur in India. The park is known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Keoladeo national park is also known as “bird paradise”. The sanctuary was created 250 years ago and the sanctuary have a shiva temple within its boundary. The park was created by the maharajas of Bharatpur. Earlier, the park was a hunting ground for the maharajas of Bharatpur.
Bharatpur is also called as “Eastern Gateway of India”. It is a world heritage site and declared as a sanctuary in 1971.
The park is considered as one of the largest bird areas in the world. The place is known for nesting of resident birds and migratory birds including water birds. The park is spreaded over an area of approx 29 sq kms. The major part of the park area is covered with shrubs and medium-sized trees. The park is flooded during the monsoon.
Over 300 species of birds, 370 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 7 amphibian species, 7 turtle species and a variety of invertebrates. Macro invertebrates like worms, insects are abundant in variety and numbers.
Bharatpur is connected by bus or train. The nearest railway station is Bharatpur junction at a distance of 5 km. One can reach there by hiring a hiring a private car and driver from jaipur.
A ride by boat in early morning is also an amazing experience.
The park is rich in flora and fauna. Richness and diversity of plant life inside the park is remarkable.
